Description
About The Book
This book, “”Urmila’s Diary,”” does not claim to be a historical account or a scholarly interpretation. It is an intimate expression of the emotions, imaginations, and sensibilities that arose in the author’s inner world. In the vast world of the Ramayana, Urmila’s character has largely remained silent; this is a humble attempt to give voice to that silence.
This book is an attempt to express Urmila’s unspoken feelings, which are rarely mentioned in literature and narratives. Here, an effort has been made to portray Urmila not merely as a symbol of sacrifice, but as a sensitive, loving, and inwardly strong woman—who waits, endures, and yet remains steadfast in her love. All the emotions and dialogues expressed in this work are the author’s own feelings, not a claim to any proof or authoritative interpretation.
This work is divided into three parts. The first part contains fourteen letters that Urmila writes to Lakshmana each year of his exile. Each letter is followed by a short poem that briefly expresses the essence of the letter’s emotions—as if Urmila’s heart is quietly speaking to itself after writing the letter. The second part is an emotional dialogue of Urmila and Lakshmana’s reunion, where years of silence find expression in words. The third part presents an emotional analysis of the episodes of Urmila described in the Ramcharitmanas, so that the depth of this neglected character can be understood.
Prior to this book, the author’s Ankahe Ehsaas and Unkahe Ehsaas: Part 2 have been published. “”Urmila’s Diary”” is a new extension of that emotional journey.
If the reader hears an echo of their own waiting, their own unspoken feelings, or their own silence in these pages, then that is the true meaning of this creation. This is the author’s own work—born from the heart, an attempt to reach the heart.
About The Author
Nigam Mishra was born on December 1, 1984, in the historical city of Bhagalpur, Bihar. His early life was spent on the banks of the Ganges in this peaceful and culturally rich land, where the seeds of words and emotions were sown within him at a very young age.
He lives in a joint family and is the loving father of two daughters. Nigam Mishra is married to Jyoti Kumari, who is an expert in Madhubani painting.
Nigam Mishra is a corporate professional, who, in pursuit of his dreams, is living away from his city, his home, and his loved ones, participating in the rat race of life in another city. Amidst this hectic life, when everything comes to a standstill, his pen takes over. That pen expresses those unspoken emotions that are often suppressed in the heart. After a day filled with busy meetings and emails, when he finds a moment of quiet at night, he picks up his pen – and those emotions that often remain unexpressed in the heart are transformed into words.
