About the Book
Echoes Beyond Silence is Dr. Sudarsan Mandal’s first collection of English poetry and a heartfelt invitation to readers across cultures to discover the universal language of human emotion. Written by a physician and public health professional whose life has moved between rural Bengal, the cities of India, and journeys across Europe, the Middle East, and Canada, the collection brings together diverse impressions of people, places, relationships, nature, memory, love, solitude, longing, loss, hope, and resilience. His poems emerge from both lived experience and quiet observation, transforming ordinary moments into reflections on the extraordinary complexity of being human. While rooted in the poet’s Indian sensibility, the emotions explored in these pages belong to no particular country or culture-they are the shared experiences that connect us all.
The title Echoes Beyond Silence captures the central spirit of the collection: every silence carries a story, every memory leaves an echo, and every unspoken emotion has a voice of its own. Through lyrical, accessible, and contemplative verses, Dr. Mandal explores what lies beneath the surface of everyday life-the words left unsaid, the love remembered, the wounds that heal slowly, the beauty that appears in fleeting moments, and the hope that survives even in darkness. The collection seeks not merely to tell stories, but to create moments of recognition, allowing readers to find fragments of their own lives within the poems. For readers around the world, Echoes Beyond Silence offers a gentle journey across landscapes both external and internal-a meeting place of cultures, memories, emotions, and dreams, where the silence between words becomes as meaningful as the words themselves.
About the Author
Dr. Sudarsan Mandal is an Indian physician, public health expert, and accomplished bilingual poet whose life and work bridge the worlds of science, medicine, and literature. Born in a village of West Bengal, he spent nearly fourteen formative years in a rural environment, where nature, simplicity, human relationships, and the rhythms of village life deeply shaped his imagination. He subsequently has been spending his life in different cities across India and travelled to several countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Canada. These diverse experiences broadened his perspective and enriched his understanding of people, cultures, relationships, and life. He is now settled in Delhi, India.
Dr. Sudarsan Mandal completed his MBBS from Nil Ratan Sircar (NRS) Medical College, Kolkata, and earned his MD from the All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health (AIIH&PH), Kolkata. He is currently serving with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, where he has made impactful contributions to public heath. With a distinguished career spanning more than three decades in public health, Dr. Mandal has made significant contributions to disease control and health policy while nurturing his enduring passion for literature. He is the author of two Bengali poetry collections, Shabder Michil and Rain Drenched Love (Brishti Bheja Prem), and has contributed to seven collaborative poetry anthologies-Kabya Kuhu, Kabya Keka, Kabya Nababdya, Upama (Volumes I, II and III), and Fuljhuri, published in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His poetry reflects emotional depth, lyrical elegance, introspection, compassion, and philosophical sensitivity, drawing inspiration from nature, love, solitude, memory, spirituality, and the profound experiences of everyday life.
Echoes Beyond Silence is Dr. Mandal’s first English poetry collection and his introduction to an international readership. The poems explore universal themes of love, longing, solitude, memory, resilience, hope, and the quiet strength found in silence. For Dr. Mandal, silence is not merely an absence of sound but a language through which the human heart remembers, reflects, questions, and discovers. Through this collection, he transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries, inviting readers to pause, look within, and listen to the subtle echoes of the human soul. His poetry celebrates humanity, nature, and the timeless beauty of inner reflection.
