Indians carry a nebulous picture of their distant past, particularly the history that goes back tens of thousands of years. This is the result of many influences, including sabotage by competing civilizations that do not offer comparable substance, as well as other vested interests. Our own tradition of fictionalizing events, in order to ensure their preservation through oral transmission, did not help matters in this regard.

Meanwhile, the world has undergone several cycles of transformation, including some tantamount to revolutions in science, the art of communication, and learning in general. The genetic makeup, lifestyles, and— increasingly— the intellectual reflexes of the present-day world are deeply influenced by modern science. Western methodologies of evidentiary confirmation are based almost exclusively on the material sciences. The Indian view, however, is aligned with the realm in which we have long excelled: spirituality. Therefore, what is presented here incorporates the Indian tradition of Pramāṇa (means of valid knowledge) as evidence.

The attempt is to present, in broad milestone terms, the process of formation of Indian civilization—then called Aryan civilization. By the chosen benchmark, the culmination of this process is considered achieved when the species learns how to reach the pinnacle of its existence, that is, the highest spiritual plane. This was realized with Vedanta, through the philosophy known as Advaita, around 2,300 years ago.

There is difficult-to-reject logic, excellence, and science behind the events of the Dashavatara, the decimal system, the Devanagari script, the Sanskrit language, and the manual of life and existence known as the Vedas. When presented with evidence, context, and logic behind each of these, a thinking, unbiased, and open-minded person is likely to respond favorably. Even a person with an atheistic mindset will find them difficult to reject, as none of these constructs require faith in order to be proven as factual.

About The Author 

An engineer in Electronics and IT, he began his career as a lecturer at an iconic institute and went on to found the state’s first Electronics Department. His professional career spans 25 years with leading IT companies, followed by a stint in technology and business advisory roles.

Reading and travel have been lifelong passions that triggered and guided his evolution as a thinking individual, eventually leading to a perspective on Existence. Initially, the thought was that travel had no destination. As the journey progressed, it underlined the destination as Truth. Once it became clear that this destination was what Time, History, and the Shastras have always pointed to as “option-less,” there was no turning back.

Born with an innate curiosity and the reflexes of a thinker, the intuitive teacher finds happiness in effective communication. Writing presents the challenge of creating an enjoyable cocktail of often-clashing elements—clarity and engaging comprehension—while preserving the inviolable integrity of the underlying truth.
