About the Book
The novel begins in strife-torn Burma, in the year 1980. Villages are being burned one after another, houses looted, and girls and women subjected to unspeakable violence. Amidst this chaos, a father, along with his 6-year-old daughter, escapes to India, leaving behind a raped and dying woman—his wife and the mother of the little girl “”Ki.”” Their journey to India involves constantly changing identities, and tragically, two murders occur along the way. They find no stability or peace, forced to keep moving and altering their religious identity.
Despite the intense love between them, they are forced apart, destined to spend their lives in India, completely alone in a new and unfamiliar environment. Along the way, they encounter new people, but the father and daughter are condemned to live separated. This novel is a tale of ultimate sacrifice, abandonment, desolation, hope, and longing.
Will they ever find peace? Will they ever reunite as circumstances continually work against them? Will destiny show them mercy? This mystery novel is shrouded in mist, where everything seems tranquil until one listens to the voiceless. The father and daughter are the voiceless in this heartless world.
