About The Book

The book aims to compile social dimension of health that is very weakly understood by medical students in the country. This endeavour is materialized i/v/o poor exam scores in the subject both in its theoretical & practical aspects by the undergraduate & post graduate students, according to the author’s experience in teaching learning practices. This book would be highly successful at imparting comprehensive knowledge regarding social health aspects applied to disease prophylaxis and individual’s well-being. We have used traditional terminology applied to the public health school of thought to come up with thorough understanding of social pathology in the Indian context. We have also compared the social health scenarios with developed countries like USA, wherever applicable. This narrative solves the need for a method of complete and inclusive understanding of diseases including prevalent and influent social evils affecting patients & their families both locally & involving a globalized perspective. Thus, the compilation helps combat societal afflictions and professionalize health promotion.

About The Author

This project is multi-authored by the eminent faculty of Community Medicine, working in different settings across the country. The selection of theme, contents and major writing and editing has been envisaged by Dr Purva Shoor, Professor of Community Medicine working at American International Institute of Medical Sciences, Udaipur, Rajasthan in India. She has published 15 research articles in the field of community medicine, books on Preventive Cardiology, Environmental Cardiology, and several other book chapters in projects by other academicians. Dr. Purva has produced 2 health education booklets for children under the banner Project Cheshta, both in Hindi and English. Its a privilege that the book has also been thoroughly edited by Professor B. Rupini who is the head of the department, offering Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental and Educational Health at IGNOU. She has a lot of experience in SOITS, is an educationist with a truly versatile calibre.
