Description
About The Book
In an era marked by rapid industrialization, climate uncertainty, and ecological degradation, the intersection of law and environment has emerged as one of the most critical domains of policy discourse and legal scholarship. Eco-Constitution: Navigating Environmental Law & Sustainable Development in India is an endeavor to provide a comprehensive, analytical, and interdisciplinary understanding of the Indian environmental legal framework within the larger paradigm of sustainable development.
India, with its rich biodiversity and complex socio-political dynamics, has witnessed a significant transformation in its approach to environmental protection—ranging from constitutional mandates to judicial activism, from grassroots environmentalism to corporate accountability, and from national regulations to international obligations. This book examines these multifaceted developments through a structured exploration of statutory provisions, landmark judgments, global commitments, and emerging technological innovations such as artificial intelligence and green technologies. The book is divided into four parts. Part I lays the foundational understanding of environmental law in India, tracing its evolution, constitutional underpinnings, and the judiciary’s pivotal role in shaping environmental jurisprudence. Part II addresses contemporary environmental issues and governance mechanisms, analyzing climate change policies, biodiversity conservation laws, and waste management frameworks while highlighting the growing importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards. Part III integrates India’s national efforts with its global environmental commitments under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and international cooperation. Part IV ventures into the future—discussing the potential of artificial intelligence, green innovation, and policy reforms to strengthen environment.
