Konmai is a literary novel spanning love, loss, and generational memory within a fractured household. At the centre of the story is Konmai, a young woman who falls deeply in love with Mahidhar—her sister’s husband. In a society where marriage is treated as duty rather than emotional truth, their relationship becomes both an act of courage and the beginning of irreversible ruin. When Mahidhar marries Konmai despite social taboo, the family structure quietly collapses under the weight of silence, shame, longing, and emotional exile.
After Konmai’s untimely death, her six children grow into vastly different lives shaped by abandonment, grief, resilience, displacement, addiction, endurance, and hope. Through memory, silence, and longing, the novel explores how love can both sustain and destroy, and how families continue carrying the emotional inheritance of those who came before them.
The novel follows the lives of her children: the rebellious eldest son who never returns home, the daughter shaped by endurance, the son consumed by inner emptiness, the displaced daughter searching for belonging, the laughter-filled son destroyed by excess, and the youngest daughter who becomes the sole keeper of Konmai’s memory.
