Description

About The Book

The importance of media in a democracy cannot be overstated. It is often described as the “fourth pillar of democracy” because it acts as a watchdog over the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the State. Media ensures transparency in governance by exposing corruption, disseminating public information, and enabling citizens to make informed choices. In addition, it plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion and facilitating political accountability. The Supreme Court of India has consistently recognised the importance of freedom of speech and expression under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution, which includes the freedom of the press as an implied right. In this background Savitribai Phule Pune University revised its curriculum on the basis of Choice Based Credit System for LL.M from Academic year 2025-26 and introduced Media Law as one of the Soft paper consisting of two credits under specialization of Constitutional and Administrative Law. As an introductory perspective to prod and provoke the inquisitiveness of the students, to grasp the key features of Media Law and their relevance in a subtle perspective and to provide help for the preparation of various university examinations providing for Media Law as a subject. Author of this book designed its contents completely on the basis of syllabus issued by the university. Attempt is made to make available every point in one book.
