About the Book
In this book, the family environment, self-confidence, and academic achievement of Class 9 students studying in government schools in urban and rural areas of the Korba district of Chhattisgarh are studied. Using the stratified random sampling method for the selection of students, a total of 14 Hindi-medium secondary schools were selected: 7 from urban areas and 7 from rural areas. From each school, 30 students were included in the study, resulting in a total of 420 students.
Standardized tools for data collection included the Family Environment Scale (FCS, 2001) developed by Dr. Bina Shah, the Self-Confidence Inventory (SCI, 2005) developed by Dr. Rekha Gupta, and students’ previous academic records to measure academic achievement. The study found differences in the family environments of students from urban and rural areas. However, no differences were observed in self-confidence and academic achievement.
Family environment and self-confidence were found to impact students’ academic achievement, with a positive correlation identified between the two variables. The combined contribution of family environment and self-confidence as predictor variables was found to be 11.9%.
