The book highlights that starting up as a woman in small towns in India is a daunting task and shares steps of Yashoda Devi from bettiah in Bihar to overcome daily challenges and concerns successfully. Yashoda Devi who fought wide spread social, economic and political barriers successfully chased her dreams in a patriarchal society and encouraged women to go beyond their role of home making through her indomitable spirits 50 years ago. Yashoda Devi deals with several aspects of society including untouchability, religious rituals focus on female education and sterilisation, fought for equality and drive against Unsocial elements and conservatism and features the inherent strength of women.
About the Author
Author Manoj Kumar Rao’s debut book, Yashoda: Ek Swayam Prabha Stree Ki Vastvik Kahanee (Hindi Edition), has been honored with 14 awards, spanning from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. He was presented with the “Author of the Year” award by Miss India Shivani Jadhav in Navi Mumbai. In addition, he received the “Best Author” and “GIFA” awards in Goa. During the Indraprastha Literature Conference in New Delhi, he was awarded two prizes in the presence of the then-Governor of Himachal Pradesh. Hailing from Bettiah, a town in West Champaran district, Bihar, Manoj Kumar Rao earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from Ramjas College, Delhi University. He began his journalism career with Hindustan Times in New Delhi and went on to work as a senior journalist for prominent publications such as Dainik Jagran, Prabhat Khabar, Chouthi Duniya, and Dainik Bhaskar, covering various districts of Bihar. Over his 26-year journalism career, he has been recognized with numerous state and national awards for his exceptional reporting and special articles.
