About The Book

Hospital-acquired infections remain a major challenge in modern healthcare systems across the world. Despite remarkable advances in medical technology, antimicrobial therapy, and hospital infrastructure, infections acquired within healthcare facilities continue to contribute significantly to patient morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Effective infection control practices are therefore essential for ensuring patient safety and improving the quality of healthcare services.
The purpose of this book, Infection Control in Hospitals: Principles, Practices and Prevention, is to provide a comprehensive yet easy-to-understand overview of infection control principles, practices, and strategies used in healthcare settings. The book has been specifically designed for students and professionals in allied health sciences, medical laboratory technology, nursing, microbiology, and other healthcare disciplines.
The chapters cover fundamental concepts such as the epidemiology of healthcare-associated infections, microbiology of infectious agents, sterilization and disinfection techniques, biomedical waste management, antimicrobial resistance, and outbreak investigation. Special emphasis has been placed on infection prevention practices in critical hospital units such as intensive care units, operation theatres, neonatal intensive care units, and dialysis centers.
This book aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application of infection control measures in hospitals. It is hoped that the information presented in this text will help students develop a clear understanding of infection prevention strategies and encourage healthcare professionals to implement effective infection control practices in their institutions.
