Description

About The Book

Healthcare today is rapidly evolving into a collaborative and patient-centered system where professionals from multiple disciplines work together to deliver comprehensive care. In this changing landscape, optometry has expanded far beyond refractive correction to become an integral part of preventive healthcare, rehabilitation, systemic disease management, public health, and interdisciplinary clinical practice. Recognizing this broader role, Optometry and Multidisciplinary Aspects of Health has been developed to provide students with a strong academic and clinical foundation aligned with the modern scope of optometric practice.

Prepared according to the NCAHP syllabus, this book bridges theoretical concepts with practical healthcare applications in a structured and student-friendly manner. It introduces readers to the multidisciplinary nature of healthcare and highlights the significant contributions optometrists make within integrated healthcare systems.

The book comprehensively covers healthcare models, rehabilitation services, eye care delivery systems, and interdisciplinary healthcare integration. It discusses international and Indian healthcare frameworks, visual rehabilitation, low vision care, management of systemic and neurological disorders, primary to tertiary eye care models, tele-optometry, community eye health, and collaborative patient management involving various healthcare professionals.

Special emphasis has been placed on simplifying complex concepts without compromising academic depth or clinical relevance. To enhance learning and examination preparation, the chapters include tables, flowcharts, diagrams, clinical examples, and a well-structured model question bank containing MCQs, short notes, long-answer questions, and application-based problems designed according to Bloom’s taxonomy.

One of the key strengths of this book is its student-centered approach. It has been written not only to help students succeed in university examinations but also to develop analytical thinking, clinical reasoning, and a deeper understanding of holistic patient care. The book aims to prepare future optometrists to function confidently as essential members of multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

This text is intended to serve as a reliable resource for undergraduate and postgraduate students, educators, and professionals interested in the expanding role of optometry within healthcare systems. I sincerely hope this book will simplify learning, strengthen clinical perspectives, and inspire students to embrace collaborative and patient-centered eye care in their professional journey.
