About the Book

After the Vows follows Meera through the quiet, unglamorous truth of a marriage that slowly asked her to disappear — and the years it took her to find her way back to herself.
It begins with a wedding she believed in completely, two people laughing under fairy lights, certain of everything ahead. It moves through the small silences that followed — a comment here, a comparison there — until she barely recognizes the woman staring back from the mirror. Then comes a betrayal she never saw coming, and a divorce that unfolds not in dramatic courtroom scenes but in lawyer’s offices, empty flats, and long drives on roads she doesn’t remember choosing. The story sits, without flinching, in the rock bottom that arrives almost a year later — quieter and greyer than anyone expects rock bottom to be.
And then, slowly, it turns. Through a lopsided pottery bowl. Through therapy that is harder than she expects. Through learning to sit in her own silence without reaching for anything to fill it. Through getting her name back — in her own voice, her own career, her own home.
Grounded in years of clinical psychology practice and research into emotional regulation and relationship well-being, this is a work of fiction built from many real women’s truths. It offers no easy timelines and no tidy triumphs — only honest company for anyone standing inside their own hardest chapter, and proof that the woman waiting on the other side of it is worth becoming.

About the Author

Mayukha Anumula is a counselling psychologist and Doctoral Research Scholar with three years of clinical experience working with adults navigating anxiety, stress, and burnout, alongside the emotional aftermath of relationships that no longer serve them.
Holding a B.Tech and an M.A. in Psychology, Mayukha’s published research spans emotional regulation and relationship satisfaction, AI dependency and critical thinking, the impact of digital media on student development, and the psychology of cybercrime. Across all of it, her work returns to a single throughline: the intersection of digital behavior, relational patterns, and psychological well-being, and how people find their way back to themselves once the identities they built around others quietly stop fitting.
In her clinical practice, Mayukha has sat across from many women living some version of the story told in these pages — the slow shrinking inside a marriage, the disorientation of starting over, the long, unglamorous work of rebuilding a life that finally belongs to them. After the Vows was written from that vantage point: close enough to the pain to render it honestly, and far enough into the healing to know, with certainty, that it doesn’t stop there.
