India is a nation blessed with breathtaking mountain ranges and has long captivated the world with its scenic beauty. But beyond the idyllic imagery lies a sobering truth—a truth that cannot be ignored any longer. The collapse of hills and mountains across the country has become an all-too-common occurrence every year, claiming lives, demolishing homes, leaving behind a trail of devastation, and setting back the economy of the country. This book endeavors to shed light on the natural and man-made reasons for this complex phenomenon of hill collapses along with the reality behind these catastrophic events through meticulous research, first-hand accounts, and expert insights. By delving into the causes, consequences, and potential solutions, with the hope to raise awareness and a deeper understanding of this pressing issue. increasing human activities and their vulnerability leads to various problems in the hilly terrain of the country and created misery for the people living there along with a number of environmental problems. From the picturesque hills of Uttarakhand to the rugged terrain of the Northeast, I have tried to describe the problems of all the prominent hill stations of India. It is essential to acknowledge that the intent of this book is not to paint a bleak picture of our magnificent hills, but rather to awaken a collective consciousness and inspire action.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

The author is basically a Hydrogeologist with having Master’s Degree in Geology along with a Master’s Degree in Advanced Survey and Photogrammetry and thus associated with the earth and nature. The author being attached to the field job became an avid traveller, nature lover, and able to assess the environmental problems. During the course of long 36 years of active service wrote numerous papers on Groundwater problems along with a Book on Remote Sensing with respect to Natural Resources. After my retirement, wrote a number of fiction and non-fiction books like Travel History, My Work Memoir, Words of Wisdom From Some Great Personalities, Water an Eternal Source of Life, and Revealing the Cultural Significance of Hindu Festivals and Temples, etc. This book is entirely on the problems of Hill collapse which is taking a bad shape and endangering nature along with flora and fauna.
