Description

About The Book

Sports physiotherapy has advanced from a supplementary role to a vital discipline in preventing, assessing, and rehabilitating sports-related injuries. With rising participation in recreational and competitive activities, there is an increasing demand for structured, evidence-based, and multidisciplinary approaches to athlete care. Sports Physiotherapy and Exercise Prescription: Part I has been developed as a comprehensive academic resource for students, physiotherapists, and allied healthcare professionals seeking deeper insights into sports medicine and rehabilitation.

The book begins by emphasizing the health benefits, socio-economic importance, and classification of sports, while outlining the expanding role of physiotherapists in on-field and off-field care. It systematically explores sports injuries, addressing mechanisms, classifications, healing stages, and treatment principles, with strong focus on injury prevention, risk factor identification, and conditioning strategies.

A major strength lies in its detailed analysis of common injuries to key joints such as the hip, knee, and ankle. Each section integrates anatomy, biomechanics, clinical presentation, and management strategies, encompassing both conservative and surgical approaches. Overuse and tendon disorders are also addressed, reflecting the challenges of repetitive strain in athletes.

The practical dimension covers emergency care skills—including taping, bandaging, athlete transport, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation—ensuring readiness for acute sports situations. The concluding unit highlights rehabilitation principles, return-to-play protocols, functional assessment, and the psychological dimensions of recovery. Exercise prescription is emphasized throughout as a tool for healing, performance enhancement, and reinjury prevention.

Overall, this volume offers a structured, academically rigorous, and clinically relevant framework designed to build competence, critical thinking, and excellence in sports health and rehabilitation.
