Description

About The Book

After completing this textbook, learners will be able to understand the evolution, history, and foundations of Artificial Intelligence; explain intelligent agents, their structures, percepts, actuators, and task environments; differentiate human-like thinking and behavior from rational models; describe common and expert AI tasks; formulate problems using state-space representation with initial, goal states, and operators; and apply uninformed and informed search techniques such as BFS, DFS, IDS, Hill Climbing, Simulated Annealing, Online Search, while evaluating search strategies based on completeness, optimality, and computational complexity to solve classical AI problems like the 8-Puzzle, Water Jug, and Tic-Tac-Toe. Learners will classify intelligent agents, analyze percept sequences, agent functions, and programs, study agent architectures including reflex, model-based, goal-based, utility-based, and learning agents, and evaluate performance within various environments. They will understand tree and graph search fundamentals, implement BFS and DFS, compare uninformed methods, and apply them to standard problem-solving scenarios. They will further explore heuristic-driven strategies, the role of admissible and consistent heuristics, Greedy Best-First Search and A*, analyze A* optimality and completeness, and apply heuristic search to route finding and optimization. Learners will study partial-observation search and local search methods such as Hill Climbing, Simulated Annealing, and stochastic approaches, handling challenges like local maxima, ridges, and plateaus in both discrete and continuous spaces. They will formulate and solve Constraint Satisfaction Problems using constraint graphs, propagation, backtracking, and forward checking for map coloring, cryptarithmetic, and scheduling tasks. In adversarial search, they will apply minimax, construct game trees, compute utilities, and implement Alpha–Beta Pruning to optimize decision making in games like Chess.
