Description
About The Book
“Udaan Abhi Baaki Hai” (The Flight is Yet to Come) is not merely a collection of memoirs by a government official; it is the saga of a self-reliant individual whose journey began amidst the raw earth and the dim lantern light of Lakhanpur village and culminated at the pinnacle of success. The book transports the reader to rural Bihar in the 1960s—a time marked by a severe lack of basic amenities, yet rich in traditional values and soaring aspirations.
This is the story of Rajeev Nayan, who dreamt of becoming an IAS officer, only to see his path blocked by destiny through two major illnesses, his mother’s horrific train accident, and a lack of proper guidance. Yet, refusing to surrender to circumstances, he joined the Income Tax Department as a humble clerk on August 19, 1992. Driven by a strong sense of duty and a resilient spirit, he steadily advanced in his career, eventually adorning the prestigious position of a gazetted officer—an Income Tax Officer (ITO).
Beyond recounting his professional experiences across various domains of the Income Tax Department, the book highlights his inspiring zeal—akin to that of a student—to master modern online systems like ‘Faceless Assessment’ just thirteen months before his retirement.
The book deeply touches the reader’s heart with the author’s profound sense of paternal fulfillment: bidding farewell to a spotless 33-year career with the spirit of Kabir’s words—”Jyon ki tyon dhar deenhi chadariya” (returning the sheet of life exactly as it was received, pure and untainted)—and witnessing his two sons (Harshit and Shobhit) establish themselves in the corporate world after graduating from the nation’s premier management institutes (IIFT and FSM). It stands as a living testament to unwavering faith and the steadfast pursuit of duty in the face of life’s adversities.
