About the book

In the Book Author speaks about, The burden of caregiver has been caused by a number of factors. These include characteristics of the person with mental illness, characteristics of caregivers, and relationship between them, time spent by the caregiver with the patient and nature and severity of illness. The caregiver burden may be seen in all stages of illness. The family caregivers bear with the behavioral disturbances of the suffering family members and sometimes can also be a target of the patient’s abusive or violent behavior. They have to curtail their own routines, and focus much on suffering family members. Approximately one-third of all caregivers are balancing employment and care giving responsibilities, and of this group, two-thirds reported clash in roles that require them to reschedule their work schedules, work lesser than normal hours, and/or take unpaid leaves of absence. In addition, they have to meet the financial needs of the suffering family members or relatives besides meeting the treatment costs. Thus the family caregivers play a major role in providing care giving assistance to the ill persons and their families and there on they may develop burnout and emotional exhaustion.
